"As many of my fellow Epilepsy Fighters know, recovering is a PAIN! Every time our bodies are electrocuted we TRY to recover physically AND/OR mentally! Convulsive Seizures can drastically weaken all of my muscles from head to toe AND lessen my energy! Seizures can cause muscle atrophy and neural tension! Due to "My Current Remedy", My Seizure Quantity AND Severity are Improving!☺ My Body can finally HEAL! I Stay Hydrated by Drinking Water throughout the day. I wear an Acupressure Wrist Band to stimulate PC6 or HT7 & Activate My Parasympathetic Nervous System! I take My Calming Herb Combo (Ashwagandha, Lemon Balm, Passion Flower, & Skullcap). I enjoy a Moment of Oxygen to My Brain by Alternate Nostril Breathing. I Cortices Tap. Qigong inspired, I Full Body Tap. I Stretch & Exercise. I Meditate (Deep Calm Breathing & Hold Mudras). I stimulate acupoint DU26. I pay close attention to how every muscle feels. I only add more to my routine when I feel zero pain. Why? Mobility/Flexibility Training is BEFORE Strength Training (#1 Physical Therapist Tip)!"

Your Journey to a New You!
- SEIZURE FIRST AID! DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING IN THE MOUTH! Place Person on their Side & Cushion their Head. Seizures usually last 1-3 minutes. However, if it lasts for 5+ minutes please call 911! Everyone's Body is Different; What Works for One May Not for Another! Increasing Oxygen to the Brain helps some! Thus, Alternate Nostril Breathing when one feels an aura, helps to prevent the seizures of some!
- STOP A SEIZURE: Exchange Breathing Method Reflexology Tip Inhaling Lavender Oil and/or Frankincense Oil helps some (Rub drops of oils on tip/bottom of nose to smell during the seizure)! Rub Lavender/Frankincense Oil on body (nose, temples, armpits, behind ears, neck, palms, feet bottom, and/or chest). Tapping the top of the head (GV20) & middle of the chest (CV17) with one's finger tips helps to calm the seizures of some! Vagus Nerve Stimulation helps some: Stimulate/Massage/Press Down On/Tap Acupoints PC6, CV17, GV20, HT7, ST36, LU7, and/or Auricular/Ear Points (cymba concha, tragus, & cavum concha).
- Physical Therapist Tips: FIRST, gain MOBILITY/FLEXIBILITY. THEN, one can start to regain STRENGTH. Do not strain muscles. Hold positions for as long as one can handle. Only increase length of time when one feels no muscle pain/resistance. Muscles need rest. Start with Extension/Flexion Stretches & Full Body Stretches. Learn About Your Body (what do you feel, which muscles hurt, etc)! Patience is Key.
- Occupational Therapy is used to improve one's ability to perform activities of daily living. Depending on the severity of one's muscle weakness, one may need occupational therapy before physical therapy. Great Youtube Videos!
- Nerve Glides & Nerve Flossing: Key aspects of Yoga, Qigong, and many other traditional forms of physical therapy
- Deep Calm Breathing: Inhale 4sec. Pause sec. Exhale at least 8sec. Pause sec. Repeat for 5-10min. Attempt Mostly Nasal. It really heightens My Parasympathetic Nervous System (the "calm/recovery" side). By Lessening My Respiratory Exhaust & My Cardiac Exhaust, I ensure constant Oxygen to My Brain by Resonant Breathing and/or Alternate Nostril Breathing throughout all of my physical activities. These tips help to prevent my exhaust-triggered seizure.
- Acupoints: Tapping/Massaging LU1/LU2 help to open airways, CV17 is calming, & PC6 is powerful. Cortices Tapping is Head & Chest-CV17 Acupressure. Stimulating DU26 helps some with circulation and muscle cramps. The Acupressure Wrist Band can press on acupoint PC6. There are Many More Acupoints!
- Examples of Fine Motor Activities/Stretches/Exercises/Hand Therapy are Crocheting and Knitting. One can simultaneously do an activity/hobby while recovering. Think About it! Be Creative! Even dusting/cleaning your home!☺
- Lavender Oil/Frankincense Oil have been calming for me to smell when I experience any twitching, nerve vibration, or when I have a fast pulse, but recent acupressure, cortices tapping (head & chest-cv17 acupressure), acupuncture, & breathing exercises have reduced that need. I have read that parents of epilepsy fighters have rubbed drops of Lavender Oil or Frankincense Oil on their child's nose during seizures. They have said it helps to calm the episode! It has helped me too! Aromatherapy during physical activity is calming for many (by placing a drop of a calming oil on the tip of the nose or in a diffuser).
- ICE & REST SOAR MUSCLES!
- Contrast Showers are said to boost blood circulation, loosen muscles, improve muscle recovery, improve flexibility, & more. So, How do I take a "Contrast Shower"? First, I shower in warm/hot water for 5 to 10 min. Next, I shower in cold water for 30 sec to 2 min. I repeat for at least 2 cycles. Do not forget your face. One may stop the water, Sit, &, Do basic stretches right after hot water! Ensure that the temperatures are the hottest and coldest that YOU can stand; do not burn yourself. Always finish with cold water. Please keep note that extreme hot or cold temperatures ARE seizure triggers for some!!! Consistency is key to see results: weekly, 3 times per week, or even daily! Plus, Alternate Nostril Breathing is great to prevent exhaust & relieve a little exhaust; it ensures good O2 levels.
- "Contrast Bath": I soak in warm water for 5-15 min to loosen my muscles. After the warm soak, I slowly stretch. I end by soaking in cold water for 1-5min. One can also take a Contrast Shower afterwards. After a Contrast Bath, I do the R.I.C.E. Approach. But, again please keep note that extreme hot or cold temperatures ARE seizure triggers for some!!! Ensure that the temperatures are the hottest and coldest that YOU can stand!!!
- The R.I.C.E. Approach for Muscle Strains - Rest, Ice, Compression, & Elevation - Once again, resting is KEY! First, I ice my muscle for 15 minutes. Then, I apply/rub my vibrating hand held massager (low mode) on the area for 1-2 minutes (similar to the compression step). I try not to use the muscle and then I repeat these steps in three hours. I was amazed at how these simple steps have helped to heal my strained/exhausted muscles! More Info Here
- Massages can be painful, but beneficial. I love my massage gun and my hand held massager. One can start by massaging the palms of one's hands & the soles of one's feet! I have tried "roller alternatives" such as using something relatively hard/durable to rub on my body to easily apply pressure and self-massage (eg. tennis ball, empty vitamin bottle, be creative). Qigong includes self-massaging. Showering prior to massaging definitely helps to loosen my muscles. Please note that "over massaging" can be damaging. A Deep Tissue Massage is not always needed. Sometimes extremely sore muscles just should NOT be massaged and medical assistance is needed.
